I’ve never talked to a therapist. I’m used to handling things on my own. Aren’t people who go to therapy flawed or weak?

All of us are part of this "human experience" with strengths, weaknesses and flaws. Knowing that you need help and have the courage to reach out is a sign of strength. In our work together, developing insights, coping skills and using the awesome tools of TEAM CBT empowers you to address and work through the problems you are struggling with.

Why shouldn’t I just take medication?

Medication can be effective but it alone cannot solve all issues. Sometimes medication is needed in conjunction with counseling. Our work together is designed to explore and unpack the problems you are experiencing and expand on your strengths that can help you accomplish your personal goals.

How does it work? What do I have to do in sessions?

Each person has different issues and goals for counseling. Your therapy will be tailored to your specific needs. Sessions will consist of utilizing a variety of approaches and techniques. Research shows that clients who complete therapy homework consisting of supplemental reading, listening to podcasts, Daily Mood Logs and more, show a significantly higher level of improvement.

How long will it take?

It is difficult to predict how long therapy will take and it depends on the issue(s) you're wanting to work on. Additional issues and goals can also emerge while in therapy. Everyone’s circumstances are unique and the length of time counseling can take to allow you to accomplish your goals depends on your desire and motivation for personal development and change.

I want to get the most out of therapy. What can I do to help?

Motivation is key to a successful outcome in therapy and getting the most out of your sessions. Your active participation and dedication will be crucial to your success and as mentioned above, supplemental reading, podcasts and Daily Mood Logs will significantly improve your chances of success in therapy.
